The "Mowmacre Playground" was developed during the 1980’s by local residents who had recognised the value of 6 existing “Adventure Playgrounds” in Leicester, being Braunstone, Highfields, Goldhill, Northfields, New Parks and Woodgate.

It was clear that a lack of good local play provision and play opportunities was having a detrimental effect on families and the community.

After 10 years of lobbying and finding financial support the purpose built play building was established with a plot of land on the Recreation Ground at the top of Bewcastle Grove.

Since 1992 the Play environment inside and outside has been developed with the local children in line with the guidance given in Best Play including the Playwork Principles and The Seven Play Objectives.

In 2001, the “Mowmacre Young Peoples Play & Development Association”, a Company Limited by Guarantee was formed.

Between 2002-2005 the first phase of the outdoor play area was developed with the support of the “Single Regeneration Budget”

In 2007 the development of the outdoor playground was completed with “Playbuilder” funding.

In 2017, the Play Association became a Registered Charity.
